About Us

We are the Pickering Baseball Association; we operate under the guidance of the Eastern Ontario Baseball Association, which is a part of the Ontario Baseball Association www.baseballontario.com.   We are supported fully at the administrative level by dedicated unpaid volunteers who are nominated on a yearly basis at our annual General Meeting. Our coaches, scorekeepers, etc. are volunteers as well.

The Association supports three levels of hardball play for the youth of Pickering. Houseleague, which is open to all children who want to play ball, Select which is open to all house league players, however if they chose to try, they are involved in a tryout process and not all members who tryout will make the team.  Select is played on Sundays and does not interfer with House League Play, all members of the Select Team, must participate in House League games. The Third Level of Hardball is, our Rep Division which is open to all children but accepts only those who are chosen by the team coach for more information regarding our rep programme, please contact John Smeelen, president@pickeringbaseball.ca.  To view more information about registration or our programming please return to our home page and click away or contact Gail Sharpe, vphouseleague@pickeringbaseball.ca .

Registration dollars go directly to programming, groundskeeping, equipment purchases, uniforms, umpiring etc. For more information on distribution of  registration fees, please contact Lisa Giblin, treasurer@pickeringbaseball.ca .  We are grateful for the many sponsors who assist us in keeping registration cost at a minimum, please support our sponsors, or if you are willing to sponsor the League in any way please contact Leslie Quigley, leslie.quigley@gmail.com.

Our goal is to teach the children fair play and sportsmanship while they are busy and having fun. Our hope is that our members enjoy some time together outdoors and learn a little while they are there.

We have operated successfully in Pickering for over 25 years; we have enjoyed membership up to 900 in some seasons.  For a time our numbers decreased however 2006 was the beginning of a 10/12% increase in enrollment which we hope continues... in 2010 we hope we will see even more children playing ball. Our Executive has worked toward this goal over the winter.

We do follow specific rules and regulations. Our Executive Board is accountable directly to the Ontario Baseball Association. To view any directive that we operate under we invite you to browse this site or contact John Smeelen, president@pickeringbaseball.ca .

For members interested in summer employment we offer umpire training and positions, the umpiring schedule is set up so that members can work the nights they are not playing ball, it is a win/win situation.   Interested members born in 1994 or earlier should contact Jerry Hunt, chiefumpire@pickeringbaseball.ca for more information.

We have training programmesand offer training support throughout the season for those who are interested.  Please contact Allan Sharpe at, playerdevelopment@pickeringbaseball.ca. We also have training available for our coaches, those interested should contact Allan.

HAVE A GREAT SEASON, THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS,

Gail Sharpe, Vice President & Director of House League, vphouseleague@pickeringbaseball.ca
