2013-12-19The Red Sox Minor Bantam team OBA ‘A’ Provincial Championship Silver Medalist!
The Red Sox Minor Bantam team competed in the OBA ‘A’ Provincial Championships over the Labour Day weekend in Thornhill and came home with silver medals as the Tournament Finalists.
The Red Sox started strong defeating the eventual tournament champion Cambridge Cubs in Round 1, lost to a strong Burlington team in round 2 then won four consecutive do or die elimination games against Niagara Falls, Markham, Thornhill, and Burlington to reach the finals.
Unfortunately in their 7th game of the weekend they fell short to a rested Cambridge team who had received a bye to the final by way of a draw.
Pickering finished the tournament with an excellent 5 - 2 record. They were only team to play the maximum 7 games, and the only team to have victories against each of the other final 4 teams
Head coach Chris Rankine led the Minor Bantam Red Sox to an outstanding season which saw them finish second in the EOBA regular season with a 22 – 4 record. The teams overall record including tournaments was an impressive 40 – 12 – 1 which included another silver medal as a finalist in the Whitby ‘AA/A’ Heart and Stroke Tournament.
The Red Sox team is coached by Chris Rankine, Rob Denoon, Mike Henning and John Tough. Team members consist of Jonathan Colucci, Azaan Dharamsi, Ishan Sinha, Carson Ward, Craig Henning, Davis Katsumi, Andrew Karkruff, Tanner Rankine, Andrew Tough, Cian Allen, Robbie Denoon, and Christopher Watson.
